An Opportunity to "Do History"

Want to make an historical joyful noise? Then come out to the Sacred Harp Convention and join in singing the music that encouraged some of our ancestors!

20th Annual Pacific Northwest (Washington) Sacred Harp Convention
Saturday February 19 and
Sunday February 20, 2011
9:00am–3:30pm
Mercer Island VFW Hall
1836 72nd Ave. SE, Mercer Island, WA
All-day singing on both days! Registration begins at 9:00, singing begins at
9:30, with potluck dinner-on-the-grounds at noon. No experience necessary.
Shapenote music dates from American colonial times and is characterized by
fervent a cappella singing in four-part dispersed harmony.
We sing from The Sacred Harp (1991 Denson edition), a shapenote tunebook
which has survived in continuous traditional use since its publication in 1844.
Books will be available to borrow or purchase.
All sessions are open to the public and admission is free.
Children are welcome at the convention, but no childcare is provided.
